I own a small web hosting business, and this guy is being a pain in the ---!!! I hosted him when I first started about four months ago as a reseller of Burst.net, and when I registered his domain, i was very sure I did it right.

Now he won't pay his outstanding $70 bill, he is claiming he is going to sue me, and he is also saying that he will report me to the better business buearue?

"I am going to get this out on how bad you and the company we own (clam that is) screwed me. I am also reporting you to the BBB.

and I also see that you have removed me as a tech contact for my site that you stole.
CaspertheClown: I have also contacted joker about your business practice."

This is stupid -- I know that I don't have to release his domain until he pays his $70 bill, but is there any other way I can approach it?

What reason is he giving for not paying the outstanding bill?

He says he "just wants to leave -- and take his domain with him".

so you bought the domain for him?
shouldn't he have paid you before you bought it for him though?

This is why I hate registering domains for people in the normal method of charging it to MY own credit card and asking for money from them... cause this means that I am the registrant of the domain... and therefore the OWNER... get him to pay for the domain and do a domain ownership transfer

Assuming things are as represented, here's one thing you might do. Disable his FTP and telnet access. Send him a polite yet stern notice (get a receipt of acknowledgment) advising that payment must be received by a specified date (ten days or more) or his account will be disabled for non payment.

Since you're out your own money rather than just lost income from hosting fees, the supposition that he is attempting to defraud you is greater.

You paid way too much for the domain registration and probably registered with an inferior registrar (like NSI), and may want to reconsider your choice should you do any more registrations.

You may want to take a look at the discussion at http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=10010 It can give you some guidance on what else you can do if this guys still doesn't pay his bill for his domain registration. You could get it out of his name altogether.
