I hear so much about BAD experiences on this board, and I searched around for a thread about good experiences, but it was rather hard to find (although, I must admit, I didn't do a highly thorough job). However, I feel like it's time for the question to pop again. Please answer the following questions if you can.

1) Are you satisfied with your host? (reply to the following only if requirement (1) is met)

2) How long have you been with the host?

3) What makes your host good?

4) Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)

5) Would you recommend your host?

6) Additional comments?

No hosts answering, please :) Just hostees... ;)

Oh yes, and please put the name ;) Thanks for reminding me

Q:: Are you satisfied with your host? (reply to the following only if requirement (1) is met)
A::Extremely satisfied. Do we need to name it, too? If yes, I host with HostMatix.com

Q:: How long have you been with the host?
A:: About 5 months now.

Q:: What makes your host good?
A:: Everything. Packages are outstanding, as wel as support. My experience is way better than I have previously encoutered with other hosts (I've changed 4 and I think I'm with HostMatix for a long long time now). The respect you get as a customer is the same as if you were shopping on 5th Avenue.

Q:: Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)
A:: Once with the mail server. The server was down or something for 15-20 minutes. One of the managers called me twice and apologized.

Q:: Would you recommend your host?
A:: I am in online business and I deal with a great number of people/partners. I use many Internet services and I always recommend them to everyone I know if the experience is positive.

Q:: Additional comments?
A:: None.

best,

1) Yes

2) 1 month

3) Do a search (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?s=) for HTTPme.COM nuff said.

4) Nope

5) Yes

6) At first I was under the impression that $ is everything, it's not ... I'd rather go with an established webhosting provider who charges enough to make a PROFIT so they can afford great tech support, excellent uptime, be reliable, friendly and if everything goes smootly you rarely have to call them. Again $ is not everything. Until you realize this you haven't seen the light.

I'm using two hosts at the moment -- one for business and one for personal usage. I'm also paying for my son's host, so technically that's three. I'm very satisfied with the two hosts I am directly using though.

2) How long have you been with the host?

Since May of 2002.

3) What makes your host good?

Response Time. That's the first thing I checked. I eliminated a lot of hosting prospects right away by how hard it was to contact someone or by the length of time it took them to respond. The two hosts I'm using now have been very responsive -- they must not have lives. :)

The fact that they mantain a presense on instant messengers also helps.

Communication -- very important. Let Me Know What Is Going On. I can put up with an amazing amount of nonsense, but I better be kept informed.

4) Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)

Not with my current host, but I've had some negative experiences. Let's See . . .

My first host ever was OLM.NET. I have nothing bad to say about them. I used them, they were great, when I quit using them for a cheaper service with a few more features I was looking for they handled it profesionally and quickly.

From there, I went to a host I shall not name. I was with this host for almost a year, and picked up a few resold accounts, fortunately just friends as I was feeling things out. There was a lot of minor nuisance problems with the servers on the host I was using -- downtime and the like. From what I gather there was problems with the server they were trying to resolve, but it lasted quite a long time and was REALLY irritating the others under me. Right about this time another problem occured that made me question the stability of the hosting company I was dealing with, so I decided to jump ship and found a new host. I had time to do it, so I started canceling one domain at a time and moving things slowly over to the new host. This is where problems started. They didn't get my cancellation. They did. They didn't. They did. Maybe they did. I sent it certified mail as well. That's not good enough, have to use the online form -- which was working, wasn't working, was working. One night after an exchange with billing in which I wasn't getting a direct answer I blew my top and threatened to contact the BBB and State Attorney if things weren't handled. *ALL* my accounts were instantly locked out. My personal account was paid in full for a year, and all the others were month to month -- I was due a refund that would have come to under $ 100 in any case, and at one point the owner of the company called me on the phone and said I'd get it, but it turned out this was a delaying tactic. Unfortunately, my wife came down with cancer at this point and my attention was taken elsewhere, otherwise I would have pursued this further.
(I have intentionally left out identifying details).

They next host I went to kept getting themselves on blacklists, and I want my email! The one after that accused ME of spamming -- turns out it was someone else on the same server. The Bonehead.

5) Would you recommend your host?
6) Additional comments?

Yes. www.jatol.com and www.techark.com.

My only additional comment would be NEVER pay in advance for hosting services. Pay one month at a time. Use a credit card so you can cancel it if you need to.

I was going to reply to this a while back but wasn't sure if you were looking for posts with users that are new with their host. Hopefully so...

1) Very satisfied ... so far so good. My new host is responsive and polite which is important to me.
Gearhost http://www.gearhost.com.

2) Only for about two days now. That's not a lot of time but everything is flowing well so far.

3) Back to the number one question my two main points where that my new host is polite and responsive. Another point would be knowledgable. I called and got a Sales person but he was technical as well (answered some .NET questions I had).

4) Nothing yet since I'm so new but I wish there was a bit more documentation on their site for new members. Their forums helped a ton though.

5) Yes. I already did in another post earlier :D.

6) I really like their control panel, it's slick and easy to use. I've had hosts who had Cpanel and had nothing but out of them all I'm very impressed with their control panel.

1) Are you satisfied with your host? (reply to the following only if requirement (1) is met)

Yes, very.

2) How long have you been with the host?

It would be about 3 months now.

3) What makes your host good?

The customer care is second to none - very fast response times. Even solved some important problems, not least a solution to an issue my crappy ISP raises that had caused me to have to cancel elsewhere.

Plus the server itself is superb - it's using only high quality bandwidth, and its located on the backbone in NJ, so connectivity to Europe and the rest of North America is excellent. No downtime noted yet, and never noticed any speed/ping issues. And it's not even costing me much, either!

4) Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)

My only complaint is that there are no raw logs to download. I had assumed I'd get them, but instead only have Webaliser and Analog stats, which are set up automatically with cPanel with the account. I would have liked raw logs in case, but the rest of the service is so good it's not really an issue.

5) Would you recommend your host?

Certainly - www.nirmani.com

6) Additional comments?

If you're looking for referrals then *do* ensure you use the forum search function in the nav bar. That's an excellent way of tracking a host's record and service issues. I never found any complaints about nirmani.com

If you'd like to check the connectivity, you're welcome to run a test on my website - link in the signature.

Btw - never choose on price alone. You really do get what you pay for. Mid-range hosts are probably worth the closest attention.

Have fun -

Brian

OK, I'll jump in too. I agree this forum can be too negative at time.

i) Happy with my host ?

Yup, the main one I use in the USA is www.infodoma.com and they are excellent. Good, good people who know what they're talking about and provide excellent technical support.

I've got about 6 domains with them ( www.4-career-training.com and www.active-online-courses.com , as examples) and the uptime is solid. Been with them almost a year now and have no intention of moving away.

ii) Had any problems ?

They had a problem with one of their servers a few months back, so there were some slow download times and occasional downtime. So they moved all their customers on that server across to a new one - no messing around.

iii) Would I recommend them ?

Certainly would. If decent support and customer communications is important to you, then take a look at Infodoma.com .

Are you satisfied with your host?
Yes, very much so. My host is http://www.dot5hosting.com
How long have you been with the host?
Since July of 2002.
What makes your host good?
The support. They have really great support that responds within 24 hours. They also have a live help feature on their website that I've used that is helpful.

Also, they said that I could use 3 domains on my package. When I went to add the other 2 after my main domain, they ran into problems. So they gave me 2 other packages for free because they promised me my other 2 domains. That's dedication. :)
Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)
Yes, when they had problems add my other 2 domain names. But they quickly resolved that and did more than I ever asked for. :) Also, they are currently have problems with some of their servers, that are constantly down now. But I am not on those servers. It is like 2 servers out of 10.
Would you recommend your host?
Maybe not now because of the downtime the newer servers are getting. They seemed to have found the problem, a script sending spam or something. So after that dies over, I'd recommend it, yes.

1) Are you satisfied with your host?
Yep!

2) How long have you been with the host?
20 months(2 years in May of this year)

3) What makes your host good?
I'd say it's a lot of little things. Pricing isn't the "lowest" but it's quite good, and reasonable, so acceptable to me. The quality(NAC network now) is excellent, and the host itself is very accomodating and tries hard to help with problems and issues, or at least answering questions as best they can. So, if I have a problem/question/whatever, they get back to me with a worthy reply. I know I'm not just a number, but an appreciated customer, by the way they treat me. Also, they have the best custom CPanel theme setup now, which is super nice, and makes Cpanel all the better! :)

4) Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)
Not really, but there have been a few concerns/issues, mostly surrounding CPanel stuff. I'd come from a different setup and was disappointed in the raw stats format being less than impressive, but I've learned to live with the other stats offerings there, and the Mailman/SuExec issue was a nuisance this past year, but again, I've learned workarounds or the issues have been resolved or otherwise dealt with. Overall, "nothing" really negative about the host itself, just some of the realities of hosting, and even these I had good correspondence with the host on the issues until I was content with the situation.

5) Would you recommend your host?
Oh yeh. Since others are naming the host, here's who I'm talking about: RotoHost (http://www.rotohost.com)

6) Additional comments?
All in all, I've been "very" satisfied with Rotohost now, and nearing my 2nd full year with them, I have "no" interest in leaving the two accounts I have there to go to another host at all. Rotohost seems more "laid back" in their approach and not at all overbearing or seemingly out to just build sales on top of sales, etc., so it seems more obvious that they care about quality of service and not just quantity. Again, price isn't the lowest out there, but it's "quite" reasonable and more than affordable, in my opinion. Particularly when I weigh in the quality factor. I had had two host prior to settling on RH a couple years ago, and so "have" had other experiences. I've also seen good and bad in hosting elsewise and since being with RH, and I keep looking back at my accounts with RH and appreciating what I have there. If you go to RH's forums, you'll see very little traffic, but they don't need a lot. Email and support tickets tend to answer most issues that come up, and things run pretty smoothly 99.9% of the time, so I can spend more time dealing with the sites than dealing with hosting issues! Peace of mind for sure, which is what I think many of us want in a host! Thumbs up to Rotohost from me, and I say that after being with them nearly 2 years now, and no end in sight for how long I will be with them! :D

1) Are you satisfied with your host?
- Yes.

2) How long have you been with the host?
- Since April of 2002 I believe.

3) What makes your host good?
- There is rarely any downtime, support tickets are answered promptly, my sites are rarely slow. The prices aren't too bad.

4) Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*) There has been some bits of downtime that were really irritating (like peak hours, when I have a large amount of site visitors), but it usually only lasts for a few minutes. The only other annoying problem is that a number of members were constantly getting "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" errors -- I thought maybe it was their ISP, but there were at least 10-15 people from all over the world.. so I figure it was my host :D It seems to be fixed now, after sending a support ticket.

5) Would you recommend your host? Yes, definitely -- not just for resellers, but for anyone who has multiple domains and needs to be able to host them all on one account (like me).

6) Additional comments? Nope :stickout: Except that my host is MCHost.

5) Would you recommend your host?
yes, if the money is not a problem and you do ASP. MaximumASP

Packages are cheap! Support is good. Ive been helped personally by the owner every time. Ive never had to submit a support ticket cuase I can usually find the owner on AIM although support via aim is not offically supported by the company.

4) Have you have any negative experience with your host? (Even slightly negative...after all, not everyone's *perfect*)

The server crashed once that I know of but I do believe I was the cause of that so its not really their fault :stickout:

5) Would you recommend your host?
I highly recommend www.spenix.com (http://www.spenix.com) to anyone looking for a reliable host with great customer support

6) Additional comments?
