View Full Version : Urgently need a $5 or less Windows host

I was hosted with ************ or something like that and the downtime was nearly 50% and when it "worked" it was painfully slow. I noticed they are 100% wind powered so I guess their servers go down when the wind is low.

Needless to say I didn't renew and now my sites on that host are down and I need a new host yesterday but don't want to make the same mistake.

My main site is on DiscountASP.net but it's too expensive to host my minor sites on.

Can anyone recommend good $5/month or less hosts that allow at least 2-3 domains, bandwidth and storage space are irrelevant (my site uses very little).

Thanks

Oh wow, my old host is so bad its name is actually censored on these forums?

Hello, have you tried the find a host link at the top? You may be able to find a good quote with that service.

You should be able to find plenty of hosts that can put you up on a $5/mo budget. I'd do some searching on reviews here before you go and make the final decision!

Thanks, are there any that are normally recommended?

From the find a host link HostGator seems good, any comments on them?

If you read the reviews section you will read a lot about HostGator, some good, some bad. Like anything else some people have a good experience some do not. I have never used them so I am not at liberty to say whether hostgator is good or not.

I noticed they are over $5/month for multiple domains but not much. Does anyone have any recommendations? I just don't want something as bad as I had.

50% downtime is absurd. I think if you do a bit of research on any host you're interested in, you will find something that will meet your needs, and be within your budget. Almost any solid host out there (keyword: solid) will be able to take care of you better than that.

Oh great I've been had by so many hosts "fake" prices again but it's even worst with HostGator. Normally hosts tell you the price with a 3 year contract but costs more if you choose a shorter contract, I understand that.

But hostgator shows a lower price and once you go to pay you learn it's only for the first payment and then costs 20% more. Already the $7.96 was a bit higher than I wanted to pay, now to learn it's really $10/month is double my budget.

Too bad because they looked like a great host. The thing is the websites I want to host with them don't make me much money at all for now so I'd be loosing lots of my profits.

HostGator are Linux only host, you need a Windows host.

If your mini sites are not using ASP, ASP.NET, MsSQL or any other Windows only technologies, in simple terms they are simple html sites, you can host them on Linux servers too.

If so, you get tons of options to chose from.

My websites all use ASP and Access DBs so I need a Windows host. Why was HostGator in the list of Windows hosts on this website?

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/web-hosting-providers/windows-hosting

Please correct this as if I agreed with their prices I would already be signed up with them assuming they were Windows servers, this WHT website almost just caused me a lot more trouble than I'm already in.

What about 1and1?

Another very large host. I have personally made some orders with them in the past, and I did not have a very good experience with their support; your mileage may vary of course.

I recommend checking out this URL if the find a host link is not giving you the results you care for. I can't specifically comment on any of the hosts listed though.

Great, 1and1 and Arvixe seem to get really bad reviews. The find a host link barely has any Windows hosts, one of which isn't even Windows as mentioned above.

How can I find a Windows host? It's starting to seem impossible. My website has been down for 2 weeks now and I'm loosing money and customers.

PLEASE help me find a Windows host, I need one yesterday (actually 2 weeks ago).

I'm starting to feel my only option is to go back with my host that had 50% downtime, someone please give me an alternative before I get back into that nightmare.

I can't say if these guys are good, or bad, but m6.net has been around for awhile, and they seem to be within your budget. I haven't researched them much, so you will need to form your own opinions about their services.

Check these two
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1023249
&
http://www.softsyshosting.com/Win08Hosting.aspx

For the host in the first link, I am using them personally and never had any problem. The other host has good reviews here at WHT.

Though their advertised rates are not within your budget, but you can always negotiate with their sales :)

OMG Thank you, those seem great, which would you say is best between the 2?

The 2nd seems a bit cheaper but I don't mind $8/month max.

How much disk space do you need? Will you be paying monthly or you can pay Annually as well?

$5/monthly for Windows is not reasonable, if you expect good hardware, good datacenter, good uptime, etc. It's just not going to happen. That's hard even for a Linux plan. A more reasonable budget would be about $15/monthly.

I used one of these for several years, with no complaints:
http://eurovps.com/eng/hosting/ha_webhosting/ha_webhosting_windows/

(Still with EuroVPS, but now on VPS + dedicated Windows. They have good upgrade paths.)

1&1 and Godaddy are crap -- don't use them.

For a while, I had a shared Windows account at Coolwin. It seemed fine, though I didn't use it for much. But again, you're looking at $15/monthly, not a fiver. Five is just too low.

5 MB (not GB) would be more than enough. I prefer to pay monthly or quarterly/bi annually at most.

As for $5 not being enough, for years I had a great host at $5/month with unlimited everything, but when they made changes it turned to a nightmare. My other main website is on a $10/month host and the service is top notch, but they charge $10/month/website

Do a research regarding "overselling" and you will realise that you are going to have problems with those unlimited kind of hosts, sooner or later.

For your question, which one is better from the hosts I mentioned in my earlier reply, I have been using PremiumReseller for few years now, without any issue, for the other host I have not used them but have noticed some good reviews about them.

And as I said before, contact their sales and see if they can create a custom package for you.

I would recommend http://www.indichosts.net/hosting/windows/index.htm
Been using them for a year and have had no problems. However, I don't know much about their support as I have only submitted 1 ticket so far

Hate recommending a competitor, but can't match their pricing. Winhost has pretty good plans and features and I have experience using them. They seemed pretty reliable, but I wasn't running anything I was monitoring. Support was responsive as well, answered within an hour, but no phone number / live chat. Just tickets.

With the price point you are looking for, I would have to recommend winhost (http://www.winhost.com). Uptime has been great when I've had sites there and the support team was always quick and helpful.

Thanks for all the replies. Should I trust web host review websites? I'm asking because I've seen 2 recommendations for Winhost but on review sites they have like an average of 1.5 stars out of 5 with tons of complaints.

I'll probably make my decision today but would prefer not a site with a 1.5/5 star average. I don't mind paying up to $8/month max if it's worth it.

Thanks

Most people that are happy with their service never comment on it. The bad reviews could be just a handful of people out of thousands of customers. Check their site and see if they have testimonials from actual customers that post their name and website address.

I prefer never to trust anything at all from the company I want to buy from but I do understand you are more likely to write a review when you're not satisfied. In fact I never reviewed my old host in my 5-10 years of use until this week when I was fed up of the last 1-2 years of horrible service and lack of replies when asking for a refund.

OK I have it narrowed down to PremiumResller, WinHost or SoftSys hosting.

Now I'm completely lost about the domain specifications. What I want is to host at least 2 separate websites on separate domains with separate emails, basically everything separate except the payment (I don't want to pay the hosting fee once per domain, I want to pay it once for all domains).

The hosts use terms like "Domains", "Domain pointers", "Domains per site", I am clueless as to what terms refer to what I described above.

Can anyone tell me which of the 3 hosts mentions in this message above would allow me at LEAST 2 separate domains/websites/emails under one hosting plan fee?

Thank you

Most of the host (not just shortlisted ones) can support your need of separate domains/websites/emails under one hosting plan, how they do depends on the control panel they are using.

You should contact their sales and discuss your needs directly and can ask them for a custom plan for you, this initial interaction will also give a feel of their services, so that you will be sure of going with the right company.

This is very true. Most review sites have more negative then positive reviews. What you want to keep an eye out for is if the host in question is responding to these reviews, and how they choose to respond.

We also have a number of testimonials on our site if you haven't reviewed them yet. All are real customers who have used our services.

Finally, I would like to know which hosting review sites you were reviewing where you saw the negative reviews about WinHost, if you wouldn't mind sharing, or at least messaging them to me as I am curious as to what they are.

I had narrowed it down to PremiumResellerHosting, SoftSysHosting and WinHost.

The first I eliminated was WinHost because I need separate domains/websites/emails and with them I would have had to pay the hosting fee once for each domain.

Then I eliminated PremiumResellerHosting due to having lots of bad reviews and very few good ones, and the replies from PremiumResellerHosting were very, very rude.

This left me with SoftSysHosting which had good reviews and the features I needed. I had to contact them 3 times and they answered my 3 question within minutes and my website has been up and running minutes after signing up.

About the bad WinHost reviews, I saw some here (but the reason I didn't go with you is because I wanted seperate websites/emails for different domains at no extra costs):

Congrats, you got your new host.

Its good that you did a thorough research and tested them before signup.

Do provide a full review of your new host after few months of use, especially if they are good, as normally people tend to post only bad reviews where as if every thing is good it's rarely posted on forums and community boards.

Thanks, I will try to remember to post a review in a few months.

I did a lot of research even though it meant leaving my website offline for 2 weeks because it's not a very busy website and I rather have 2 weeks downtime than get another crappy host and have 50% downtime like before.

I've been with Arvixe.com for almost a year now. I was reluctant because I could not find a lot of reviews and was deciding between them and Godaddy.

I am very happy so far with Arvixe windows hosting. I got a 10% discount and pay 8.00 for asp personal class ASP pro.

They have a $5 a month plan for asp with up to 6 websites and unlimited email and SQL Server databases. for $3 more a month you get unlimited databases. They have a TON of features for not a lot of money. I like being able to connect to the database with SQL Management studio right from my development machine, which is awesome, way better than 1&1. and your SQL databases can be up to 4gb, which is HUGE.

Their tech support is also very good, especially on live chat.

Your website will not let me post links, so I had to be creative to get the the domain names in this post.

I am a software developer who tinkers with .NET website development on the side mostly as a hobby. I switched from 1&1 to Arvixe because 1&1's shared windows hosting had very limited support for .NET websites.

AroostookDigital[.com] is my "business" website.

One of my websites that went live this fall, but I have been working on for about a year is MaineBuySwapAndSell[.com]
which is based on the .NET Classifieds Starter Kit.

I have also been working on some Maine photo sharing websites that are not quite live yet, but the domains have been registered for over, or almost a year and there are placeholder websites there.
