I would go ahead and stop "working" on that site, because it's not going to go anywhere. As a matter of fact, lets make a little race out of this. I'm going to email TopHost-- let's see if you can get that site down before they catch glimpse of it.

I don't think the designs are sufficiently similar for it to be a rip-off, well not for this sort of site anyway. Both sites look like a pretty standard sort of portal layout to me and the aren't exactly the same visually (though that other site has obviously been a big influence). I agree that they have a similar feel but that feel is of a portal and there's probably lots of other sites out there with a similar sort of standard layout.

The content is blatantly the same though :(

As everybody has said the design is simialar to tophosts.com, but then again so is 95% of all web hosting directories!, All art work used on the site is original art work! So it isnt a technically a rip, as far as the wording on some of the inside pages, we havnt gotten around to do our own wording yet but are as we speak, the reason for their wording being the same is when we had the designer build the site we used tophosts.com and numerous others as guidlines! and now we go from here

Also another big differance between us and tophosts.com is they charge $2000.00 a month to advertise, we charge nothing;)

everybody who has sent in a banner, they will be going up tonite!

Also just so everybody knows, i didnt post here thinking that a bunch of webhosts didnt know about tophosts.com? duh , i knew when i posted that everyone here knew about tophosts.com, and i also knew that aour site is original art work, with a few small copy and paste jobs on some text which i know all webdesigners do for a guideline. I can go down a list of about 30 directories that all have the same look and feel, and for that matter the same news articles!

They charge $2000 a month because they have... <DRUMROLL>.. VISITORS!

They also probably had to pay alot for people to come up with their content.. <hrm..>.. It's a rip.. layout, wording, everything.. nobody on here who is reputable will do business with somebody who bases their site on a lie.

The design is 99% the same as tophost. If you compare everything on the left side, you'll see this guy used the same headers, in the same order, it's the same layout. Now, you can say that my site has a similar layout, and it does, but it's not a copy-- this is a copy.

webhost100- You shouldn't be getting advertisers until you have actually done something on your site. I don't care if the ads are free-- you should never place anyone elses content on your site unless of course with permission.

A few pages? You are ripping a site, and I'll accuse you of doing so until you actually do your page. Your site is a complete recopy of TopHost, and I'm sure until this thread, you had no intentions of changing anything. The headers on the left are competely copied from TopHost, and they are images, which tells me you don't plan to change those. It doesn't take any time to come up with original headers, and you're perfectly allowed to use those headers, but if you have too many little things like that it will affect your business, and credibility.

"Platinum Members"- same as tophost.com, "Find a web solution", these are just a few that are images, that are obviously ripped from tophost.com.

I think you get my point. Not trying to bash you, but my suggestion as a directory owner, if you plan to use someone elses work you won't ever make anything with that site so don't waste your time.

I guess that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Anyway, just so you all know, Anthony runs a hosting company and he is also running a host resource, and he has indeed copied our layout, design and content.

We really appreciate those hosts who have posted to this thread in defense of us, send me an email to jon@tophosts.com with a 468 and maybe a 120x60 and we'll see if we can give you some "real" advertising. I can't guarantee anything, but we will certainly see:) thanks guys!
