View Full Version : Site5 - opinions please
MarkB 05-05-2001, 01:45 AM Hiya :)
I am finally biting the bullet and changing webhosts (my current host being down today might have something to do with it;)).
I am interested in using Site5 as their plans seem superkeen, but I have read various posts on these boards about them not always being reliable.
I have emailed them 3 times in the last week and as yet had just one response, but I'm fairly used to that with webhosts ;)
So I'm just wondering how current customers are finding them NOW (as some of those messages I've read go back a month or so), especially uptime! I have a small community site that's really starting to kick off, and being down today isn't going to help :(
Thanks for any help :)
Annette 05-05-2001, 01:54 AM I can give you our experience with them relative to a dedicated box we picked up within the past week. Note that these comments are made after only a very short time of direct dealings with Site5.
When we picked up the box, I had simply dropped a note to Matt asking him for some further information. He responded very quickly, and we went back and forth a few times. The box was ordered, shipped, and available to us within a week, and we were kept continually updated during that process. Once the box was up, we had some configuration issues which were resolved that same night. There was also a cPanel license issue which Matt fixed straightaway. Today we had an FTP/kernel issue which Vince resolved within an hour. We've used a variety of ways to initiate contact: email, ticket, ICQ, and message via the forum. Each one was answered within an acceptable timeframe (or instantly). I've noted some posts here that indicate mail to Site5 has gone unanswered, but that has not been our experience.
superiorhost 05-05-2001, 02:27 AM Hi,
It is not common for me to hear about unanswered emails to site5. I usually hear a lot of good from his customers.
As a fellow host, I know Matt is a great system admin, and knows his machines inside and out. He has helped us on ocasion, and he really knows his stuff.
Another good thing, is your dealing with an adult - Not some high school kid working from his basement pretending to be a big host.

That comment is going to upset some people. :)
As I have stated before I think the guys from Site5 (Matt, Vince) have shown great professionalism in regards to questions, inquiries and even complaints (although I have only seen one complaint, which was handled immediately and resulted in a happy customer) I dont think you can go wrong with choosing them..
I've been with Site5 for only a couple of weeks but I'm VERY happy with their service and support so far. Matt was very helpful and informative BEFORE I signed up with them and once I did sign up he helped me with each of my requests.
So far, I am one very satisfied customer who is ready and willing to recommend Site5 to all of my clients.
betty 05-14-2001, 05:23 PM I dug through some threads looking for feedback on site5...I went with them a few of weeks ago because of what I'd heard here :-)
Unfortunately, response time to my inquiries is very slow, 24-48 hours. There was one ticket that was never responded to. I have a lowly little shared plan and use the help desk.
Is site5 undergoing some reconstruction anywhere?
NetAdmin is not functional for me, and I have received an email 2 days ago to say that our server might be down sometime today to "hopefully" fix the problem, and there is a glitch using subdomains which I was informed would be handled sometime in the future ("not a priority"). My troubles with them seem to be mounting, and I can weather them, but I don't like to be left out in the cold.
Thanks for the shoulder :-)
Vince 05-14-2001, 05:38 PM Hey Betty,
Which ticket was never responded too?
Please feel free to email me directly about it instead of going through the helpdesk, and I'll see what I can do for you.
As for responce times, there were a few recently that weren't answered in under 24 hours, sorry to hear you were one of them. :(
Our support system is back the way it should be now - New helpdesk too!
The weird subdomain/email thing is just a display issue - It's an eyesore, but isn't actually breaking anything, so ...
Nexus is having a few problems at the moment, it appears to only be affecting NetAdmin and Melange, though. We also might be delaying the downtime until tommorow.
We're thinking it's a RAM issue, and want to do some further testing before it's taken down for any repair work.
Regards,
Vince.
betty 05-14-2001, 05:49 PM Hi Vince,
I'm sure I don't have the email generated by that ticket submission any longer, since I submitted another one after a few days.
I'm anxiously awaiting a working NetAdmin :-)
Thanks for responding!
gosh, I feel a little warm and fuzzy :-)
Matt Lightner 05-14-2001, 09:14 PM Hi Betty,
You should have received a notification email regarding the scheduled system maintenance. Everything should be working normally after the system is repaired.
In the unlikely event that we are unable to resolve this problem tomorrow, we will simply replace that machine altogether.
Hope that helps to calm your nerves. ;)
Best Regards,
Matt Lightner

betty 05-14-2001, 11:11 PM Hi Matt,
Yes, I received the email on Saturday and there was no particular time set for the fix, but that's okay :-) As long as it gets done efficiently.
Thank you for this reassurance!
ckizer 05-15-2001, 01:22 AM ;) I only have good things to say about site5. We've gone from shared hosting, to dedicated machine. And they've always helped us. Excellent support, with a no-nonsense approch. They also tell you the truth when things do go bad, instead of playing corporate anwsers. All-in-All site5 is the best host I have ever delt with (i've tried 3)
mojotim 05-15-2001, 05:42 PM I erased this post.
