I think they are under a ddos attack, I have been working with them for the last 2 hours as one of my servers was under an attack but they turned off the IP's to that server, so I do not know what the problem is now. Unless someone else is under attack now bringing the whole thing down again.

smit1
01-09-2003, 11:22 PM
don't you think it's all a bit of a coincidence this, same thing last night, nothing in advance then they pop on say we just did this, as if it's nothing major whilst we have to deal with unhappy customers. i fear that if this keeps up, everyone including myself will jump ship and dv2 will go under. the thing that worries me the most though, is that dv2 don't seem to want to admit that things need to change and soon. if there's anything planned we MUST be given notice at least 24 hours so we can pass this onto our customers. if they are being dos'd it's take what, 60 seconds to pop on here or email us so we know what the score is. at present i have over 30 customers asking for an eta on when the servers will be back up and what do i tell them ? come on dv2, for the sake of your customers and your business, let's get it together some. perhaps when this is all sorted and everyone's back up and running we all should start a thread on your forum to discuss this and work together to make dv2 great again. i was hoping to start the new year off with 100% up time for jan, what with the past problems but i guess not.

Before we all go in and start flaming Jeff , I want to pitch in a word of appreciation for dv2.

They are one of the few low cost server providers who have actually stayed alive, given good to very good service, got out of cogent, and for me they have given really good uptime.

Full marks for one of the best price-performance-dependability ratios to dv2.

We cant pay 100$ - 200$ and demand 300GB of actual outgoing b/w, Tier-1 providers, 2-5 hours service response, unlimited free IPs, 100% uptime and start flaming a provider if something goes wrong - a provider who in my opinion has always tried hard to provide a very good service at affordable prices.

That said, I want to let off my steam that this downtime is deeeeply frustrating to me too! :)

I agree, which is why I don't usually participate in the "MY SERVER IS DOWN!!!" threads. It's annoying, but $hit happens right.

i still say full refund would be a nice gesture... hehe

yeap, i know dv2 are at the cheaper end of the market so we can expect the earth as far as lines etc, but surely for the service we purchase to work most of the time isn't asking too much. just like buying an old car (not comparing you to this dv2) you expect it to work most of the time. i also thing one of the major issues here isn't whether it's a dos, or this that and the other, but the total lack of communication. as above, someone's spoken to them and they know, so what excuse is there for not spending 60 seconds to give us a rough idea (if they don't know - just to say we are aware of it) etc. if the person above hadn't been so kind as to let the rest of us know that dv2 are aware of this, then we'd all be getting higher and higher blood presure. it's nearly 4am here and i'm still up waiting for some word from them, i'd much prefer to be asleep, sound in the knowledge that dv2 should have it back up in x hours etc :)

Say what you will about the network issues over the last couple of months but the techs at DV2 are top notch.

No one is off at a bar, I know Jeff is there now and those guys are working their butts off right now to get the center back online. As I said I do not know exactly what the problem is but I do know they are working on it and that no one is off in a bar anywhere. Techs and Jeff are onsite.

Too bad I'm a girl =). I have friends that lives near me but they couldn't see it either. I asked a bunch of people from different areas and no one could see it, but I could. So I had people complaining to me while sitting here being confused o_O.

the colo that we connect to verio and wiliams through in the building had major problems with their switching fabric tonight.

I will have our abovenet line up around the 15th which is also a gig line and this should alleviate the issues we have had.

this was difficult to predict - however we are not interested in raising any prices to bring in different deals. we are getting the best deals we can - and this arrangement seemed best. We decided on another provider - however turned that deal down in favor of abovenet deal which was a better network for the same price - this delayed installation by three weeks.

we will be done with everything in about a week. thanks for your patience. The colo is examining what happened to their switch fabric and we will inform you as we know.

this will be a non issue in 12 weeks and I am hopeful that this will not occur again now that we have them looking at it.

I will give you as much explanation as I can as I get it. thanks

Calm CALM:confused: What is that?

I am as stressed as everyone else I have been fielding calls and emails posting in backup froums, my normal forum when it is up:rolleyes: trying to keep customers on 4 servers up to date.

Didn't mean to sound grumpy just wanted to let everyone know that I had talked to Dv2 and I knew the guys were working on it.

One thing I can say about the service techs at DV2 they go out of the way to help. So I still have to give em all a pat on the back and say thanks, hope we all get thru this in a hurry.

via my uunet line, we have been down for 12 hours. Time to move. FSCK this, it is not proffesional.

Why do you want to pay more for the network when we already paid £10 extra a month for this "improved" network? I'm not paying more so it can be "improved again".

But in all fairness, I only pay £109 a month since I was originally on the first $99 a month servver, so I get a really good deal and my box seems to load quickly all the time.

there seemsto be a uunet to wcg issue - we have ticket open with them now. evertyhing else is fine - so your sites are not down to everyeone- just having issues from uunet.

Well,
I can tell you folks that UUNET isn't getting the routes from Williams that they should be. Not sure why this is.. going to attempt to track it down myself though.

I just want to get my 2 sites back up :-)

Well, that is interesting timing. Problems begun at DV2, then they fixed it, however, UUNET now has the problem ?

mmmmm ....

I submitted a ticket to UUNET DSL and they said routes are inhereted from the gateway router of a network. So their route comes from the DV2 router.

Well that is what he said ...

Ok... I did something, but I really shouldn't have.

I noticed that We (Uunet) didn't dv2's ip range in our access list at the gateway in Ashburn Virginia. I added it. And after a soft reset, it looks good now.

I'm not really suppose to do this, since I have no trouble ticket on the problem myself, but I really wanted to see if it would fix it.

I'm going to be looking at the logs on our side, to see if that IP block was taken out by someone.

Pass that on to DSL support, he had me convinced it was DV2.

craigeb78

Well, that's why they're DSL support....

and to note, it wasn't UUNET's fault. It was WCG for not sending us their access list updates.

Seems to be working now. Should we expect any more problems?

With all of the advances in technology today, why can't we track down these idiots that do these kinds of things and send in the hit squad or some ninjas or something? Grrrr... ;)

Killin's too good fer 'em.

thanks for the update craig - yes it was williams fault for not updating uunet on the access list - they told us they took care of all of it. this was actually found out as a result o the previous issue that was mentioned when the uunet routes changed to the williiams connection from the verio connection. Abovenet will be here soon too - not going throug the meet me room by the way - totally seperate connection to their metro gig e to down the street. big smile ...........
