SamBarrow 02-17-2011, 10:10 PM I think that would depend on whether you have 100 or 1,000,000 photos. instantIT 02-17-2011, 11:43 PM I can't think of any good photo sharing with Windows hosting, perhaps you need to reconsider Linux platform. ecom 02-18-2011, 02:01 AM Thanks for replying , if i use linux platform, how much disk space do i need to start with? say max members up to 2000. i see some of the photo sharing site can offer 300mb storage for free member. i am just interested to how they can do that. thx MOOOOOD 02-18-2011, 06:15 AM I think you need to 1:5 gb space or less this depend on Image quality and size . HostASP 02-18-2011, 06:18 AM The photo sharing scripts and utilities would come with both Linux / windows based asp.net hosting plans, there are free opensource scripts which most web host offer nowadays as readily installable scripts. if you ask space that may be required!! it really depends on count and size of photos you would plan to upload. you could start with decent amount of disk space and later you could increase it. PremiumHost 02-20-2011, 07:44 PM i see some of the photo sharing site can offer 300mb storage for free member. i am just interested to how they can do that. Different kinds of ads when showing pictures? Additionaly majority of users use a lot less than the free quota allowed. Serious users would upgrade to paid version for more features and ads free. PlusWebHost 02-20-2011, 08:15 PM If 2000 users are all allocated 300MB of web space, that's 600GB of potential data. I think a dedicated server may be the best option for you. If you're interested in growing, and upgrading over time however (which isn't very difficult), starting with a shared hosting plan, moving to a VPS plan, and ending up with a dedicated server plan may work. I would even recommend this sort of setup to minimize costs at first. brenton17jul1948 02-21-2011, 04:30 AM you should have at least 2Gb space rd1234 02-21-2011, 05:15 AM You could consider using a storage service like Amazon S3 for photos. The main advantage is that you pay-as-you-go and scale virtually limitless. You don't have to plan in advance how much storage you would actually need. SamTech 02-21-2011, 10:47 AM Yes, absolutely, the query about disk quota requirement is totally depends on size of images, quality of images etc. If you have 2000 images and average size of each image is say 300 KB then initially you can go for shared hosting and in case if the number of images grows in future then you can think about vps instead of dedicated servers. Dedicated servers are comparatively very expensive. vps is nothing but a small part of big serve called as Node so there are some restrictions with resource utilization like memory, cpu, disk etc. Whereas on a dedicated server you get full, unrestricted access to it, you can make any change as per your requirement and host as many sites with any number of images on it. In fact a starter level vps would be sufficient for your web application :) bsdvps 02-21-2011, 10:56 AM IOFlood has a service where you can get up to 1TB on a VPS. Mass Storage VPS Basic Configuration (upgradable) Memory 1GB Dedicated Ram CPU 1 Core Burstable (1/4 Core dedicated) Hard Drive 1TB Dedicated Hard Drive Bandwidth 5mb/s unmetered (1,500gb/mo) Vritualization Xen Price $29.99 / mo You would need at least 10mb/s with 20 and 30 being a better option than 5mb/s. Fines 02-24-2011, 06:08 AM 2 or even 3 GB of disk space will be good for you. charlesrshell 02-26-2011, 04:04 PM You can start with 2 or 3 GB but you need to keep in mind that you have to increase your disk space gradually. wulaishiwo 02-28-2011, 06:39 AM generally, cannot use disk space for storage ecom 02-28-2011, 10:41 AM thx, what do they use for storage... ecom 02-28-2011, 10:43 AM how much storage can a 'unlimited plan' offer before they suspend your account. |
