mo·nop·o·ly ( P ) Pronunciation Key (m-np-l)
n. pl. mo·nop·o·lies
Exclusive control by one group of the means of producing or selling a commodity or service: “Monopoly frequently... arises from government support or from collusive agreements among individuals” (Milton Friedman).
Law. A right granted by a government giving exclusive control over a specified commercial activity to a single party.

A company or group having exclusive control over a commercial activity.
A commodity or service so controlled.

Exclusive possession or control: arrogantly claims to have a monopoly on the truth.
Something that is exclusively possessed or controlled: showed that scientific achievement is not a male monopoly.

Doesn't CPanel fit this description? Since Ensim is supposedly going under within a few months, and I haven't heard of any other control panels... CPanel is just raising their prices to insane amounts. ($1,400 for a piece of software!) I think it’s pretty horrible... New web hosts don't stand a chance 50% of the time, because they have a hard time find good deals, then pitching it right... All while they have a piece of crap like Ensim (Sorry to the Ensim fans (if they exist.) but I think Ensim, really does suck... For Christ’s sake you can't even make your own sub-domains, you have to have the admin do it for you.), which is barely holding its head above the water.

If you ask me, CPanel guys (and/or girls), created Ensim (With VERY limited features), so they wouldn't get sued for monopolizing the hosting control panel market, and so people would be forced to switch to them after they get enough money... I know I am probably wrong, but it sure does make a lot of sense.

Man That felt good to get out - I've been pricing CPanel... Seeing how I could afford it, and I can't :bawling:.

That's quite a significant claim. Can you back that up?

I think you've been watching too many conspiracy-related movies on TV...

No, CPanel is a fad:

Main Entry: fad
Pronunciation: 'fad
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
Date: 1867
: a practice or interest followed for a time with exaggerated zeal :

There are a number of excellent control panels on the market, Plesk being one of them.

You can create your own subdomains with Ensim, it just takes a little work on the admin end to configure. It's a much more advanced web control than CPanel and requires both you and your users be willing to learn a little (or have a good faq).

Be careful, having a system that's brain-dead simple usually leads to brain-dead simple errors popping up all over the place.

Sincerely,

-Matt

No it doesn't. Actually it's pretty silly.

First, answer your question, no. Cpanel doesn't match any of the definitions you presented. "Exclusive control?" "A right granted by government?" Nope. No monopoly.

Simply selling more of a given product than your competition isn't going to be seen, from a legal standpoint, as any kind of anti-trust violation. The fact is that there are several other control panels readily available, and there are no substantial barriers (of any kind, let alone any put or held in place by the developers of cpanel) to anyone else entering the market.

Also CPanel _does_ have a month to month lease forever option, and you can usually get it for about $65.00/mo internal $75.00/mo external.

The $1400.00 is a _one time_ fee, rather then the _monthly fee_. If you can't afford to pay the _one time_ fee I can understand maybe you don't have the startup capital but if you can't afford the _monthly fee_ then I don't know what to say . That's just my $0.02.

If ensim was going down, why do they (seem to) have a banner ad at the top of every other WHT page?

Normally I'd not lock threads so early, however the thread topic can be answered in one word:

No.

-and the rest of the post waas questionable, didn't make any sense, and thus...
