I've got a question that I need some help getting answered. I', planning on running a test environment out of my house for the next couple of months while I get aquainted with hosting and windows server 2008. I've gotten a hold of 4 servers, server 2008, and a cheap business line into my house with a static IP.

I'm wanting to create a hosting business, but before I go "live" so to speak, I'm doing some free hosting for some friends while I get the bugs worked out and my confidence up.

First question: I've got the modem that the ISP gave me and it has the static IP info uploaded into it and is then hooked up to my wireless router (i know that this probably isn't ideal, but will have to hold me until I can get a proper firewall box). Do I need to upload the static IP info to the router as well or is it ok as is?

Second question: If anyone can weigh in on a good hosting panel for 2008, I'd appreciate it. The one I'm looking at and getting ready to mess with is WebSitePanel. The problem I have with that is in relation to the setup of the IP address. Is this my static IP address or something different?

Third and fourth (and last) question: I plan on using all four of these servers when I finally go live with this and accept paying customers. Is websitepanel the best for this (ie low cost/free panel in a multi server enviornment)? Last one, what should I set up each server to host? 1 for DNS, 1 for mail, 1 for sql, and 1 for the CP and sites?

Thanks in advance for everything and for helping a noob out!

You need 4 dedicated ips for 4 servers.
What is the speed of your internet? You should have at least 100mbps connection for selling hosting.
Data center offer Gbps connection with multiple network providers.
From the questions you ask, i think you're not ready to setup servers for selling hosting. You may consider to colocate servers in a data center.

I would say that why you need to take all the headache on you why don't you choose a hosting provider or a reseller account where you will in front as for start its the better option and then once you are getting business you can go ahead with big setup
