It's pretty clear that it didn't. The "experiment" started nearly four years ago, so the results are in: http://aries.mos.org/servlets/Summary

"2694 messages have been sent as part of 2191 different message chains. Of those, 17 have reached our friend. And the average number of steps it took to get to our friend is 1.0! "

So it appears that the only messages that made it through were sent directly to the intended person -- probably by people who, in spite of the request not to, simply used a search engine to email her directly.

From http://aries.mos.org/servlets/Reports:

"The percentage of successful chains is 0.0%. And the average number of steps it took to get to our friend is 1.0, so it seems that in the virtual world, we are separated by 1.0 degrees."

Uh... yeah. As long as you only count the 17 attempts that worked out of the 2191 tries.

susannad, I bet one of the old men that live close to you fought alongside with my grandfather in WW2. That's less than 6 degrees of separation.
