View Full Version : Anything good to say about *****?
horoscopes2000 05-03-2001, 04:57 PM Hi people,
I made the mistake of signing up as a reseller with Cavendo.com, and despite me phoning them for 5 weeks they have not returned my phone calls so I still do not know how to add extra domains, or subdomains to my account.
The reason I signed up in the first place was because I was so impressed with their tech support - 24/7 - seem very knowledgeable etc, but now i find Cavendo are merely ***** resellers (or have adedicated with them) and am considering signing up with ***** direct.
But I have the following reasons to worry :
1. With Cavendo I am safe from the idiotic ***** billing dept. Are they still awful, or are these incidents few and far between?
2. They have a dedicated deal for $59 per month, but you only get a machine with 32MB Ram, and 1 IP address. Does a web server need a lot of memory/cpu power, or does only 32MB Ram not matter?
I have one main domain of my own, my wife has one, then between us we have 3 or 4 others that don't do a whole lot. Also I can transfer a couple of domains from friends/family. Am I better off reselling or getting a dedicated?
If I pay $49 for a reseller account then $10 per domain added, it's going to work out more expensive than this cheap dedicated deal, but I am really not sure which way to turn. Any ideas?
Duster 05-03-2001, 05:47 PM Do a search on ***** on this forum. If you use *****, you deserve whatever happens to you.
Why not gamble with the money, have fun with it, donate it to a local school, or put it to some other worthwhile purpose? Any of those choices would be better than just throwing it away on a bad host.
You could also use it to go see a psychoanalyst and have your head examined. There are people who would say you are crazy for even considering *****.:D
Judging from what I've read, I would have to agree that it is not a sound decision.

Don't you think Cavendo, being a ***** reseller will have to deal with this idiotic ***** billing dept and thus this may also affect you?

Depending on the type of a web page, sometimes that may be enough but most of the time that's not even enough. But gee... my old notebook is even more powerful than your server? ;)

Let's say you want to put 5 domains, then that will bring you a total of $99/mo being a ***** reseller. Well, why bother? You can get $99/mo server with tons of bandwith (4webspace.com's Raq3 with 100GB of bandwith, rackhack.net's Raq4 with 150GB) and then yopu can host probably even 100 sites if you want (with no additional cost for added domains). At any rate, it's probably much better to go with 4webspace/rackshack then to go with *****, either it be for their reseller account and/or dedicated server... There are also other non Raq server that you can rent at this price, though not with that many bandwith). In case you wonder what a Raq is, go here (www.cobalt.com).
Anyhow, if you can spend at least $99/mo, then you will be at a much better shape than being a ***** reseller.
good luck and cheers,
You could also use Ventures Online (http://venturesonline.com), they've been highly recommended and the main reseller account starts at 16.95 with resold accounts starting at 3.95. If you do some simple math, depending on your needs this could save you a bundle. :)

XTStrike 05-04-2001, 08:33 AM Hows about driving the wrong way down a motorway/highway in the dark at 150Mph in the wrong direction, the result may be less painful than signing up with ***** !
:D
Don't you think Cavendo, being a ***** reseller will have to deal with this idiotic
A friend asked me to post this:
When we started to host to the general public some of our servers were as resold accounts through *****. Their billing department was and still is a mess. We eventually had to close down the virtual servers because ***** kept messing up. For example, in March of 2000 they were only billing us for 250 accounts when we had over 1,000. Then in June they caught up, shut down the servers without even sending us a bill and then said it was our fault, they demanded payment before they would turn on the accounts again, it ws several thousand dollars needless to say. They claim that your checks bounce, when the dont....they claim that accounts are over their bandwith, when they are not. They will close an account for abuse and not even tell you about it. We thought they were a reputable company. We had a contract but because they weren't supplying the service they promised we cancelled it. There were threats of court but we dealt with that in 45 seconds over the phone. Let me tell you this.... all ***** wants is to get big so that someone will buy them, that's it! Just my 2 cents.
XTStrike 05-14-2001, 10:53 AM please GOD no... STOP IT

webfors 05-14-2001, 11:57 AM Use search feature before posting about *****. There is plenty of info on them discussed before.
XTStrike 05-14-2001, 12:03 PM indeed there is!
I think i contributed to the majority of it, lol
horoscopes2000 05-23-2001, 10:56 PM Well, it's a little while since I posted my original query about ***** and Cavendo, and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then.
I wanted to post and thank all of you for your advice on this matter (particularly dektong). In light of your past experiences I decided to go against hosting with ***** or any of their resellers, and further to Dektong's post investigated 4webspace.com
What I have found is a company that seems to outshine every host I have ever been with in every aspect. They are the most approachable, helpful people, and have not complained once about my numerous calls or chat sessions while I attempt to learn the ropes with my first dedicated server.
I've only been with them for a week or so, but can honestly say that if what I have seen so far is typical of the way they run their business, I will be with them for a very long time to come. I honestly cannot praise them enough.
They *always* answer the telephone, normally within 2 or 3 rings, whatever hour of the day you phone. Their chat window is *always* manned and does not suffer from frustrating queues like some others (CI), and the user forums are a very valuable source of info allowing me to learn from others past experience.
Thank you to you all, thank you to dektong, and thank you to 4webspace.com
:D
