Hi Guys,

I trying to find some sort of tutorial that explains how to fully set up domains on a raq4i box. The tutes at Rackshack only explain the obvious stuff like how to add a virtual site but they dont mention how to set up SOA, mx records etc to make sure that the domain works properly.

Does anyone know where I can find such a holy grail? I have a friend that has set up previous domains for me and I can always copy the settings parrot fashion but its not the same as knowing what your doing.

Cheers
Andy

The 'official' way is given as a HOWTO on pkgmaster.com.

Assuming your site is www.example.com, I always do this:
A record - www.example.com > IP
A record - example.com > IP
A record - mail.example.com > IP
MX record - example.com served by high priority mail.example.com

Then, in the site settings config, under web server alias, put
example.com

and under mail server alias put
example.com, mail.example.com

Brandon

There is also a document available from Sun which gives you a nice overview of DNS on Cobalt box.
