Hi folks,
Just wondering when my business is up and running in a couple of months, should I offer domain name purchase opportunities to clients at first or wait untill things seem to be going in the right direction?

Your opinions are highly valued.

Thanks from Australia

It would be wiser to wait until things are going in the right direction opposed to the wrong direction ;)

I think its always worth offering domains with hosting - they go together, a lot of clients like to buy the lot from one place.

Thanks for your replies. It's like being in a rock and a hard place. I know clients would probably appreciate it and it could help secure some clients but yeah, theres that element of no even knowing yet how the business will go. Mybe better to be safe than sorry.
If that makes sense.

Well, it's not like you have to make any monetary investment to add domain registration to your hosting site. Just sign up as a reseller with someone like Dotster. It doesn't cost anything, and just takes the time required to integrate it into your site.

As Uh-Matt stated, some people prefer to not have to look in multiple sites for their website needs. If you provide "full-service" it can only enhance your site.

Good luck.

Check out domainofmyown.com
You can then offer domain name without the hassle to manage them. It's a good thing when you start your biz, plus you can set up the price.

Thanks Vito, I was always under the impression that I had to purchase a quantity of domains then resell at my own price. So if it doesn't cost me anything, then I assume I make no money out of it, I'm just providing another gateway for Dotster for example to sell domains, but at the same time offering my clients a service?

Is taht right?

Cheers

Correct. Join their IRS (Instant Reseller System) at http://ir.dotster.com/home/index.php . It allows you to set up domain registration on your site at no cost to you. You get to customize the look to take on the look and feel of your own site, and you decide the price that you charge to your visitors, so you decide your own profit margins. If you don't sell anything, you don't pay anything either.

I have a small hosting site as well and it's nice to get the odd Dotster check in the mail - with no work required on my part other than the initial setup.

Thanks mate, ive also looked at twiztv's recomendation. I assume they both work the same way, payed commisions. Sounds good, if the business doesn't work out though, and ive had people register domains through me, then what happens, do I tell them to contact dotster for any future qestions etc about their domain?

Just tryin to cover all my bases.

Appreciate evryone's input.

Thanks Guys

The customer is registering a domain name directly with Dotster, simply using you as a gateway to get to them. So if your site is no longer available, the customer can still go to Dotster's site and login and manage their domains.
