Since the crash of the domain names market, are any of you actually selling domain names for reasonable amounts of money? I have been looking at some possible names for a project -- openmusic.com, openmusic.net, moosic.com. Amazingly, the owners want $5500, $1100, and $2500 (respectively) for these! I can *maybe* understand the price for openmusic.com, but the others, don't they seem a little high? Does anyone actually pay that much for a domain nowadays? I see people on ebay trying to sell names for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Do these people have no clue? Do you expect that in a year or two people will realize that this is no longer a get-rich-quick possibility?

Just ranting,
Matt

Well... I've never trid buying and selling domains.

But think of it this way... you can buy 100 .com domains for $600 or so... Take about 2 hours putting up a 1 page list of domain that you own and their prices on all the sites...

Then IF you actually do sell on for $5000 you made a pretty big profit.

I don't know anyone that has $600 to test this theroy though.

Remember: There's a sucker born every minute ;)

FYI:

china.org SOLD for $4,300
television.org SOLD for $1,495
openaccess.net SOLD for $1,000

All these transactions were done in the last couple of months. And at least one of these names are bought by an experienced domain speculator who probably is going to resell the name.

k, thanks for the info. I understand china.org and television.org selling for large amounts -- these are one-word domains with obvious appeal. But moosic.com??

Maybe this will help alternative extensions gain more popularity. Afterall, people can't afford to squat on every domain name on every extension out there. Have you tried .us, .biz, .info, another country code, or any other extension?

No, those 2 are actually bought by fellow members on another forum. I just compiled some handy .net/.org sales for mattr0's reference.
