View Full Version : Server Point vs Server Complete vs Softsys Hosting
kineticsem 01-21-2011, 01:14 PM I am looking for a shared Windows host and I have a budget of $10 a month. Bandwidth ~10GB max, disk space ~5GB.
Which of these hosts should I spend my money on? All 3 seemed to have good reviews.
CyberHostPro 01-21-2011, 01:16 PM Server Complete vs Server Point vs Server Complete?
you mentioned sever complete twice, whos the 3rd provider i assume this was a typo.
CyberHostPro 01-21-2011, 01:17 PM ahh you changed it to softsys now ;) you spotted the error as i replied.
SC-Daniel 01-21-2011, 01:19 PM Hello,
Just a note -- we do not supply shared hosting and our cheapest VPS is $35/mo, so that is well above your budget.

Yes there was a typo. Any suggestions or experience to share? What I need is an honest friendly and reliable host. Not some who tries to cheat me for not knowing much about hosting.

I have not sadly, Softsys I know the name but not the others. Go for a good host with reviews you can read and ideally someone whos not just started out in the hosting world.
It takes a long time to be good at hosting, i've been in this business over 10 years and still you learn something all the time as lots of things always changing as technology moves forward.
Giraffian 02-12-2011, 12:40 AM I'm starting to get turned off Softsys. Sure they're cheap, I don't know if it is our problem or theirs, but we've hit two fairly major issues now that have really killed the sites we host with them. And this is only after a few months
Wouldn't actually recommend them at this point.
Softsys Hosting 02-12-2011, 01:02 AM .. I don't know if it is our problem or theirs..
Well, from your ticket history, I can see that there were couple of processes in your VPS which were consuming good amount of CPU resources and this could be the reason why you are seeing slowness. As suggested, you can opt to disable these processes or add additional resources to your VPS.
Giraffian 02-12-2011, 05:15 AM Yup, the processes were the smarterstats ones that come prepackaged on Softsys, which just guzzled the CPU.
The other day mysql died on us, have no idea why.
Giraffian 02-12-2011, 05:23 AM Ah, tracked it down - when windows restarts to do updates and mysql is busy serving your website, your database gets corrupted. How the heck do you get around that one?

You can check event viewer to see what is causing this to happen. I'd note that we do not login to perform any maintenance / changes in VM's once they are provisioned in case of self managed VPS. If there is something internal to a VPS, this needs to be resolved by customer for self managed VPS.

It's gonna be big headeach when mysql databases are corrupted.
If you website is php & mysql, you should host on a linux server/vps.
kineticsem 02-23-2011, 12:43 PM So Giraffian, is Softsys Hosting a good host? How's your experience with them?
