Hi Everyone,

I got a bit of an issue.
My client wants to explore a new service.

Basically,
Wants to do live sports streams, small events, band practice, little etc.
And push it up to the web.

It would have to be a wireless broadcast.
And USTREAM does a package for this,
http://www.ustream.tv/production-services/mobile-package

Is there an alternate method?
I'm thinking about,
getting my own camera, laptop, and using a CDN provider to do this.
I myself don't have the technical expertise just yet to do so.
I've been hearing that AWS might be a good option to go.

Please let me know.

Thank you,

You need to make sure you use a Live/Streaming CDN service as opposed to the OnDemand/HTTP based ones. They will typically involve the use of streaming servers which replicate a real-time data stream to the edge nodes as opposed to caching/storing content for retrieval.

You then need to put together your method of sending/broadcasting. A popular method is to use devices or software capable to sending an RTSP stream (would work with darwin/Flash Streaming Server/Wowza etc

I'm looking at LiveU/Ustream.
They seem to do the same basic package offering for mobile broadcasting.
Looks like the whole backpack technology, and if I can't get a hardline or wifi connection.
Then the option to aggregate through 3 wireless companies is what they have.

So camera+encoder+uplink connection=Ustream/LiveU.
But I would still need a CDN right?
And if so, would I just go through AWS for something like that.
Since it's no committment?

check with Aflexi CDN software which will make your cpanel servers into CDN

I second Aflexi CDN software. I have spoken to their departments before and they are really nice and helpful. They have a good product too. :)

Yep, Aflexi software turns your VPS/cPanel server to run your own CDN.

For live streaming, it should be rather easy to push traffic, it's only taxing CPU mostly.

Thanks.

I'm looking into them as we speak.
