View Full Version : Hijacking a domain
willie140853 01-04-2003, 01:15 PM I think that my domain name has been hijacked i had the domain registered untill the end nov 2003 when i tried to access it earlier it is being rerouted to enom can anyone help explain what is happening here the domain name is http://www.freetechelp.net and yet when i type in http://freetechelp.net i am able to get thru.
you sure it didn't expire in nov of 2002?
from whois on that page: created-date: 2002-11-06
nameslave 01-04-2003, 01:25 PM A simple lookup in the whois shows that it is a defaulted domain (at least eNom called it so); it usually means that the registrant has NOT paid for the name. You might want to talk to them to sort things through. Which reseller are you using?
Weird that their database also shows the domain WAS created in the future - 11/06/03 14:41:33!
willie140853 01-04-2003, 02:07 PM i know it was created on that date as it was me that created the name with the hosting company and signed up for a 1yrs contract so it should expire in Nov 2003.
Hosting company is hostingtycoon
The other webspace and domain nme i have with them are running perfectly
Looks like hostingtycoon didn't pay for the name. Given the history they have, it wouldn't surprise me.
dreamrae.com 01-04-2003, 04:46 PM that must really, really suck
willie140853 01-04-2003, 05:26 PM Yea it did suck a little but whatever it was it seems to be cured now after a five minute phone call to them.
willie140853 01-04-2003, 08:08 PM Well it seems to have gone all haywire again lost it yet again but this time even the http://freetechelp.net has gone aswell
Acroplex 01-05-2003, 01:31 PM NEVER rely on 3rd parties for domain registrations and renewals, other that your own self.
DotComster 01-05-2003, 03:18 PM Maybe yoyr domain is not lost yet - contact enom support. You'll need proof of payment and ownership etc - give it a try.
willie140853 01-05-2003, 06:16 PM I have already contacted enom on this matter and as yet had no reply
Acroplex 01-05-2003, 06:17 PM They never respond on weekends.
willie140853 01-05-2003, 06:21 PM What i have been told is that enom has messed up somewhere along the line and i will have the domain name back sometime monday.
willie140853 01-06-2003, 04:50 PM As stated in the post subject why does the little man suffer when you pay your bills in good faith and then the domain name is taken away because of what may be the failure of others to pay the registrar.
And the little man has no means of recovery of the domain name because the registrar can not be bothered to answer any calls for help.

nameslave 01-06-2003, 05:22 PM Oh sh..
willie140853 01-06-2003, 06:11 PM Well it seems that i have lost that name for good now for the next part of the question can i register another name and point it towards the webspace that was occupied by the name i appear to have lost and then inform the members of the small board that i have there of the name change.
It will mean i will have to modify the database that i have but that is very easy to do the reason i ask is if by some chace i get the name back would they conflict in any way.
willie140853 01-07-2003, 08:03 PM Just to keep u all in the picture here i got word back from enom and as a result i will be getting the domain name back but this time it will be in my control and not a third parties control.
