My brand new 800 Mhz Duron and has 256 megs of ram, I get the temp reading 113 on the CPU, and 100 on the chasis, I have a fan on the hard drive, and the fan on the cpu is suppose to go up to 1.5 gighz

JTY 05-02-2001, 08:31 PM Do you have any case fans? If not, try running it without the cover on, and see how much the temps drop. TheComputerGuy 05-02-2001, 08:36 PM when I first ran it, I built it from scratch, I belive the temp was around 85 degrees.... so that is a big differece... webfors 05-02-2001, 11:37 PM What kind of heatsink/fan combo do you have. Duron (and any new generation amd processors) are known to run very hot. Check to make sure you have good contact between the heatsink and the cpu core. If I remember correctly AMD has some very strict requirements with regards to clip pressure. Also make sure you are using a very good thermal conductor like Artic Silver. This could pontentially bring your temps down by 3-8 degrees. And, as others have mentioned, you might need more case cooling. Personally, I would get a GlobalWin FOP32 or 38. These heatsink/fan combos are amazing and don't cost very much. I'm running my celeron 566 at 850 with a 100 MHZ front side bus for over a 9 months now and it runs cooler than stock with the FOP32. webfors 05-02-2001, 11:40 PM Originally posted by TheComputerGuy when I first ran it, I built it from scratch, I belive the temp was around 85 degrees.... so that is a big differece... This is a classic sign of needing a tune up. If your temps changed that drastically I would change the thermal compound between the cpu core and the heatsink and give your case a dusting (especially the heatsink). TheComputerGuy 05-03-2001, 05:23 PM well I have figured out the reason for that drastic of a change. I built it in my basement when it was freezing outside, so it wa rather cool in my garage, but now it is 74 in my house where it is located, I have only had it for about a month.... so I think I have figured it out |
