View Full Version : Advertisers
Shawn (GEcom) 05-02-2001, 05:02 PM Hey Guys, I hope you can help me out here..
I have been with several advertising companies in the past, and am looking for several new companies to deal with. For example, Valueclick is a company I have delt with in the past and continue to deal with.
I am interested in companies that work on CPC or CPM campaigns, and are known to actually "pay" they're publishers through monthly Cheques or Money Orders, etc..
If you know any of these companies who advertise on smaller sites (About 25,000-30,000 impressions a month, targeting Males 14-25), please reply or send me an e-mail through the forms in the board.
Regards,
Shawn
Racin' Rob 05-02-2001, 06:18 PM Burst Media requires only 5000 per month and pay monthly, (net 45 days). Doubleclick's "Sonar" network requires 100,000 per month and pay monthly (90 days net)

But CPM ad revenue is shrinking to a point where many independant websites just can't compete anymore.
Lonny 05-03-2001, 08:04 AM try CJ.com
James Cross 05-03-2001, 08:33 AM www.cj.com and www.clickxchange.com both offer CPC campaigns. We've used them to manage our affiliate sites for about 2 years. Theyre both very trustworthy companies.
You might also want to take a look at www.befree.com and www.directleads.com (Although we've never had any direct dealings with them)
(SH)Saeed 05-03-2001, 12:28 PM I've heard that CJ.com is going to close the doors and go home. Anyone know anything about this?
I doubt CJ would have problems as the way they make money is not effected by the problems with other areas such as CPM etc.

MichaelD 05-03-2001, 12:57 PM I hope CJ doesn't close it's doors! Where did you hear that? They have always been my favorite due to the consolidated check feature and the ability to preview links before you sign up for a program. (I am with linkshare, cj, befree. And the other two don't offer that)
One good thing I would like to point out is that Befree finally put together consolidated reporting at reporting.net. It is about time! It was so annoying to have to check each merchant separately. Also, befree has the best selection of high quality merchants (well, they did... I am not sure now). Now, keep in mind you will get separate checks from each merchant and whether you get them monthly or not is going to vary.
I would suggest you sign up for the about.com program if you go with befree. They have literally thousands of links you can use (which insures relevant links). They used to pay per click, but just changed the commission structure, so keep that in mind. Also, I think they pay quarterly :(. However, they seem very genuine about making it a great merchant-affiliate relationship... and that can be hard to find!
Good luck!
Regards,
Michael

Dont worry Lonny, your not alone. We're having to move over all our partners to another platform. CJ also decided to increase their minimum commission to 30%, with a minimum of $0.30 per action charge. Seems like theyre trying to actually make a profit! What is the World coming too ;)
Lonny 07-04-2001, 05:16 AM hehe, yea James, but actually CPC doesn't provide good results... because most of the people just click on the ad to 'support' the site, and then close the page when it appears.
Anyways, maybe we should do something like: newsletter sign up and pay CPA for that :)
James Cross 07-04-2001, 06:38 AM CPC can work if you are selective about your partners. Early last year we tried the launched a big recruitment drive on CJ and Clicxchange. We signed up around 3,000 sites and paid for about 70,000 clicks per month for 3 months. Cost us a fortune and our click rates actually fell!
We canned the project and started again. This time we only recruited developer related affiliates. We've only got around 500 parters now. But the results have been much better.
We tried CPA for newsletter signups about 12 months ago, and it failed big time! All they did was visit our site and submit one hotmail account after another. We even had email validation software running but hotmail and yahoo mail are so huge, you can pretty much guess a vaild email address to submit.
Lonny 07-04-2001, 08:20 AM yea, I know what you mean, got similar feedback from other host directory owners... we'll be sponsoring sitepoint.com soon, so let's see what kind of response it'll get..
:)
James Cross 07-04-2001, 09:30 AM You sponsoring their forums? I got an email about that. Theyve got a lot of traffic, should be intersting to see the click throughs, I've always got poorer results from Forums.

Burst really only requires 5,000/month? Does anyone use them? I assume it would take ages to accumulate enough to get a check if your site is only doing 5 or 10 thousand impressions a month.
GeorgeC 07-05-2001, 05:16 AM I don't believe Burst is even accepting any new sites, at least that's what was said a couple of months ago in other forums.
In terms of sponsors, the best way is still to try and work with advertisers directly. There are so many things you as the publisher can do extra for the advertiser to boost ROI that an ad network cannot. Advertisers are quickly realizng that amid the current economy.

That's the minimum required. They've become very picky with choosing new sites. Quality over quantity, supposedly. Anyway, most of the sites do at least 5,000 impressions a day.
