Hi,
We are thinking on going dedicated. We are a research group. We would like to go with a Linux box (RackShack) but at the same time we have a very important application that must run under Microsoft SQL server.
How could we manage to do that
Thank you

One other thing you may want to consider is if your application run on a linux platform or do you need to install some components and run asp on a windows platform.
Typically a MS SQL database is used with other Microsoft technologies.

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I have asked RackSahck and they told me they do not rent shared space for MSSQL.
We have a database application that have to be attacked for about 20 users from different to introduce data though Terminal Server. I think that I need to have MSSQL and terminal server and Windows 2000.
Any idea ?
Thanks

It sounds like you need a dedicated Windows box running as a Terminal Server which is quite expense per user. I think the TS CALS run about $100 each so that is about $2,000 in just TS CALS.
What kind of app is it?

Mike,
Thanks for your reply. The price is well above our budget. The application is a custom-made database where people have to enter general data. It must be safe, protected and confidential. The problem is that database was developed in MS SQL
We already own the licenses from Microsoft. The problem is we also need a server for other applications (forums, web, informations and a lot of FTP for docs).
I have had to visit these forums earlier

Why don't you go for Colo if your data is so important and own the licence.

Is the SQL database used on an anonymouse web site at all? If not, you can get by with a CAL version instead of the Processor version on SQL.
Do they have to use TS to enter in the data? If so, you will need to have a TS CAL for each user and that can get expensive.
