JBIZ718 05-01-2001, 11:49 PM What are you doing with it, and whats the expected return on investment. Why don't I just write out a check. JBIZ718 05-02-2001, 05:46 AM I like to know what Im funding before I actually do it. I m not concerned about making a profit, but I would like to see some return, as with any business. Joe Red Circle Host 05-02-2001, 04:23 PM Yes, I agree.... If i invested into any business I would actully like to see it up and running and not the person putting it in his pocket :-P jamesdasher 05-02-2001, 09:22 PM Hi, My name is James Dasher...vibesolutions was kind enough to post this (without consulting me first however ;) ). What he is posting about is a project that I have wanted to get going for a while now but have not had the volunteer help or the capital available to do so. Here is what it is: I am looking to develop a network that is directed at the age market of 12-20 (though others can benefit). I have several domains (and will be purchasing others) that will be connected together to provide to the end result in a variety of ways... I have at this time http://www.teenssucceed.com and http://www.succeednetwork.com. Please forgive me if I don't post the others that I will be using as I don't own them yet. Are goal is to provide a system that will provide teens training in different things such as financial, communication, technology, poise, etc. things that can benefit to helping them become 'entrepreneurs' in their own right and ultimately better people. To prove that this age group does want this a recent national (US) survey by Junior Achievement (http://www.ja.org) has found that 8 out of 10 young people want to be entrepreneurs. We are looking to develop this goal first through an internet portal/community at teenssucceed.com then in the future through offline chapters, curriculum, and more. Most of you are probably familiar with local small business chapters, success seminars, etc. while there are many of these for adults there are not many classes opportunities for teens to learn skills that will help them in life. I belive most of you will agree that with the shootings and such in the public schools over the last couple of years that many teens do not have a 'purpose' in life...we hope to give them one. We will make a profit once we get going through... (not necessarily in this order) 1. Advertising 2. Commissions on 'Recommended Products' (books, tapes, etc.) 3. The selling of curriculum, tickets to talks, etc. (in the future) 4. Partnerships with 'companies' (directing user base to them) Right now to get started, I need to start either 'funding' or 'help' I need programmers, flash designers, graphic designers, etc. to help me with the sites, in the future I hope to get money to start funding curriculum, etc. So right now I need either people willing to help, or people willing to put up the cash to hire people. The one problem with the way that vibe posted this is that at this time we really cannot be sure as to the rate of return. Duster 05-03-2001, 03:37 PM It sounds like a marvelous idea and I wish you much success (which usually only comes about through great effort). I hope you will include information about ethics, responsibility, and economics in your curriculum. jamesdasher 05-03-2001, 09:58 PM I believe that the 3 subjects that you mentioned are 3 subjects that carry a great weight of importance, we will definitely include them... Sincerely, James Dasher Duster 05-03-2001, 10:53 PM You might want to set your sights a bit higher for funding. There are all sorts of grants and foundations to help worthy causes of all types, as well as venture capitalists if you have a business plan and realistic expectations of making a profit. In some areas, businesses and industries help fund public school programs for a multitude of reasons, including the fact that better trained students can become the skilled employees of tomorrow. With a bit of effort in locating and contacting these beneficent sources, your funding problems could be over in one fell swoop. jamesdasher 05-03-2001, 11:04 PM Hi, Duster I contacted you via the PM system, please reply. Sincerely, James Dasher |
