I've thankfullly never had to use Hotmail, but by what your describing, it doesn't sound liek anything more than a frame.

They basicly do the same thing, some are more functional than others. Follow thru and give them a try. Good luck.

I personally find the frame annoying ... Whenever I receive an email about a PM, or a post, it puts that frame up there and it wants me to log in (which I'm already logged in). Most of the time I don't remember the location or the exact address to the post/ comment/ PM.

I've also had a few problems with the way hotmail loads my site into its frame and nothing works, so on my site, I have added frame killer :)

Hotmail is insecure, and frames in general are because they are often used to mislead people in to thinking they are at a site while they are actually at another site.

I've never exactly figured out what these do that you can't do without them, but I suppose there is some value in it.

about.com uses them too. While they're pretty annoying as I'm a right-click/open new window kind of guy I can see their purpose. They get used when a site links to another site. The top frame generally has a 'return to our site' site in it so people can easily get back again

if you close the browser window after that browser window closes that contains hotmail, then it won't return you to hotmail.
