I am desinging my bands webpage, I know how to create sites, i have done them before, but i dont nkow anything about puting them on the web, so can you help me play "idiot 101" please

DOMAIN REGESTRATION - registering your domain name, basically this only gives me a "www.yourcompany.com" and thats it

HOSTING - I believe this is all the other stuff you need, "yourcompany@yourcompany.com" and they put you on there server and give you teh webspace and everything else you absoulutly need,

What else is ther that I need to knwo when looking for a good webhost and what did I miss or leave out,

Thanks!

Dalton,

Well, that's pretty much it for a simple set up.

You will need to get a domain name so that it makes it a lot easier for anyone to get to your site. Make sure that you registerd it yourself and if you do let your web host do it for you, make sure that you have full ownership of the name or else you find yourself stuck with them forever unless you require to shift. But the best way is to register it yourself and you could decide on who you want to register with. Should be getting a better deal that way.

True, the Web host will be the one which would do all the hard work in setting up your account which usually provide you with a web space, email accounts, ftp accounts (to allow you to transfer your files to the site) and control panel so that you could 'manage' everything else.

Of course, putting your web site up does not guarantee that people will see your site or know about its existence. You will need to do some publicity. Of course, word of mouth, putting the web address on your band's flyers or promotional material, advertising on the web on one billboards and stuffs would help. Of course, search engine are great, may not give you overwhelming results but you could always submit your web address in there so if anyone do a search of your band, would probably find it.

All the best.

Here's a good tip:

Try before you buy.

Look for a host which offers a money back guarantee so you can try their services out. This way if you like them you can stay. If you don't like their service you are on your way with no money lost.
