Hello,
I'm looking for some feedback on Hostopia's services. Can anyone provide some information on them.
Thanks

maybe a search (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=789585&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) would help? :)

From what I have seen: Good.
If you want more info, contact Franc, the president. He comes onto the boards here and will give you some references if you would like. User name is geekwannabe.
Reputation seems very good and product is unique. Pricing is reasonable too.

Well, if you want a shared package, then you want bluegenesis.com (their little sister). Hostopia is just for large solutions as far as I can tell.
I haven't tried them, but I took a look at their site. They looked interesting UNTIL I noticed that 1) they don't allow shell access; and 2) they don't allow any cgi scripts that use sockets....I thought that was a strange and a bit overboard limitation since many scripts and modules such as Net::FTP and LWP use sockets, though I understand why they do this.

I look at their system but found many limitations:
1. massive setup fee...... ?
2. pricing is very expensive - If I had 20 silver accounts that would cost me $270.00/month. I might as well get my own server at rackshack or alabanza.
3. name based system - not good for SEO work
4. I called in a spoke to a tech guy (not sure if he thought I was already a client, but he did not seem to interested in giving me some information. His English also needed some work)
After that, I realized hostopia.com was not for me.

I agree. I also called in and got a foreign girl who didn't seem interested in helping, and she didn't speak English well either.

Our pricing is not the lowest, however from a value standpoint and a total cost of ownership we believe we provide the lowest total cost solution in the industry.
Of course this is my opinion but for a certain segment of customers this seems to be true.
Also, I doubt whether you could build a legitimate Microsoft ASP, MSAccess, MSSQL, Coldfusion server for this price point. Each of these licenses on their own would quickly bring you into the $20K plus range to start. We are 100% compliant on our Licenses.
As far as I can tell neither Rackshack nor Alabanza offer these types of services. However, if all you want is non-redundant, non-load-balanced, non RAID 4 based architecture, UNIX architecture than they are probably the better choice.
With us you also get a whole pile of in-house developed software that is among the best in the industry including: our Website Wizard which includes 10,000 plus photo-quality images royalty-free, EasystoreMaker build a shopping cart in minutes, Virus-scanning by Symantec, File Restore - an undelete function for websites which is analogous to undeleting in Word, and many others. You can also provide 24/7 Live 1-800 support for your customers for as little as $100/mth when you choose our outsourced support.
Price is only part of the equation in my opinion.
I'll stop now before I embarrass myself by talking too much :)

Again apologies in advance as I am not a techno-geek. We do actually allow you to use sockets to make outbound connections,
just not to listen. You can make outbound connections.

We have been with then since 2000.
We never have any problem with them, their offerring is unique and we even offer our own resellers program.
Yes, I agree there is room for growth, but they are working on it.
