there are no good colors for webpage design, just good combinations of colors.

Depends on the type of page.

Simple, go to a website that will be similar to yours and extract ideas :)

There was a study done a year or two ago and I can`t find the link. However, for marketing they suggest never use orange, yellow, or reds in your design.

The point they where making is the same as fast food resturants (McDonalds, Burgur King). They want you to order and eat and out the door. I guess these colors make you move.

Sites with blue, soft greens, gold and silver do well from what I recall.;)

Do a search for color scheme in yahoo there are a few sites out there that will help you pick out a color scheme that looks good..

Here is one I know off the top of my head:

Looking at all the templates offered here. Blue/grey/white/black and you can be as generic as the next guy.

While I am relatively new to the Hosting scene, I honestly don't expect the majority of my future customers to just happen onto my site and sign up. Thus far it's been all word of mouth that provides the customers. As long as the site is clean and legible and not written in h4x0r-eese, I think being a bit different is a good thing.

grey, purple, avoid black, light colors with a white background works well in all cases.

Personally I am a fan of the alternating grey white table rows. ;-)

That's why you need a web designer who knows a thing or two about COLOR SCHEMES.

This is a very good quick article which covers most of what you need to know (in terms of color combinations). Concise and to the point!

http://www.visibone.com has color charts for sale as well:

Wow thanks guys, this is alot more posts then I anticipated, I appreciate the help. Its nice to see that there are forums that do offer help as they say then the others that make fun of someone for not knowing what they do. Much thanks.

I'm trying to design a website for my business and I'm a networking major in college. Being able to design this page has taught me alot and will save me money. I'm on the 5th redesign of the page and was looking to make it more modern and visually appealing. Searching under my name will reveal my prior posts with an attached picture of the website.

Again thanks guys I appreciate it greatly.

If you have a Barnes & Noble nearby, you can look there. At my local B&N they had a whole book of 3-color good combinations. It'll be near the Programming section, then look for the web design books. It's pretty expensive (considering it has a small color theory section and then whole bunch of different combos), but it may be worth it if you want it. If you don't have a B&N, check www.barnesandnoble.com. Good luck!

As strange as this may seem, a lot of good colour combinations and ideas can come from the sports world. They're developing quite a few third jerseys for thinly-veiled marketing purposes and as long as they're not some hideous shade of yellow or orange (any hockey fans from the Northeastern US and New York will know what I'm talking about), they generally use good colour schemes and design.

Here's a page about the small percentage of 'color blind' people (may not be able to distinguish between Red/Green or Blue/Yellow). http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/aboutCB.html

This is a really good colour blindness test as well.

http://www.umds.ac.uk/physiology/daveb/brainday/colourblindness/cblind.htm

I'd suggest putting a piece of paper (or your hand) over the right half of the screen and trying to do the tests, then getting the results. (Some of them are tricks.)

Dude! When I came to the ones that normal vision shouldn't be able to read anything I almost freaked out. i was doing pretty good with the numbers until those, heh. "What is that?!" heh.. whew...

Why do you think I told you to put the paper over the right side? I figure there are gonna be 20 or 30 WHT members with a numb left arm clutching their chests with the good one. heh :)

I think the site theme itself should have some determination on colors too. Afterall, the web would be a boring place if every site was some shade of blue. A complete compliment of colors on the web makes it more vivarant.
