Because I got nothing useful for Christmas, I have to go out and buy everything I want for myself (well not EVERYTHING I want)

the first thing I'm going to buy is a portable CD/MP3 playerso I can cart my tunes with me wherever I go. The second thing I'm going to buy is a set of headphones. They will probably cost as much as the player.

anyways I have done a lot of reasearch and come to two candidates: they have similar features, but different prices. While i would usually let the price decide for me, i like things I pay good money to last.

So drawing on all your experience, what is your opinion on the following two players?

choice 1: http://www.pine-dmusic.com/dmusic/display/show_product.jsp?nbr=37

I can get it for around $50 on ebay

Choice 2: http://www.iriveramerica.com/SlimX_350.htm

I can pick that one up for, at the very least, $120

Assume that the claimed batter life is wildly exaggerated.

Thanks for any and all input. I really need someone other than myself to blame if I buy a crappy cd player.:D

get a sony netMD mini-disc player!!!

i dumped my mp3 player for mine and love it. cheaper than the memory cards (unless you dump out for an ipod or something) and the quality plus portability is quite nice as well.

I gave up on carrying cds. I bought an Archos Studio 10 with a 10g hard drive. Now I carry all my tunes with me. Love it.

I have a Rio 600 with 128 megs of room (Get this, I even had to upgrade to that). It's nice, although it sucks batteries down like crazy. I had a RCA Lyra, that thing was pretty nice too, however storage was also very low on it.

I like the iMac iPod or whatever. Although I don't have one, I've used one. Nice, light, and the ebst part hold 5,10,15, or 20 gbs! Works for files too. I have a Philips cd/mp3 player. It doesn't have id3 tags, but oh well. I picked it up for like $59 at walmart (clearence).

I'd buy the net minidisc if I had the money, maybe id even buy what Lamont has.

But I am poor, and I dont mind carrying around a few cds. I can't hack these difficult decisions. I'll probably just get the cheaper one

You know you want to. Buy the good stuff! :dgrin:

I have an iRock 520 MP3 player with 128MB memory ($129 at CompUSA). The battery weighs as much as the unit itself, great if you listen while exercising :).

I have one of those and am not impressed. It has problems with the MP3 playback - skipping and 'sticking'. That's why I went with a harddrive player.

I am looking for a SmartMedia based player. One that uses standard AA or AAA batteries (don't like proprietary batteries at all).

I have 1500+ tunes on my Archos Studio 10 and it's just over half full. I can plug it into my car stereo input jack and drive for a loooong time without having to hear the same song over and over. Gotta love that.
