View Full Version : Sudden out-break of intollerable customer service by BurstNET
TheNode 05-01-2001, 02:27 PM For the last 48 hours I have been trying to contact BurstNET on the matter of grenadebrothas.com being down. Both via phone, and via e-mail. No one picks up the phones it seems. And no one even aknowledges the e-mails!
Whats the story guys? 99.5% my arse, mathematically this is 93% so do I get a refund??
I am sure glad www.the-node.com isn't hosted with you. That wouldn't be too fun.
Mark Vockler 05-01-2001, 03:28 PM BurstNET is busy preparing for their long-delayed move today to their NOC, which is probably why they currently have quite a large backlog of support requests.
According to them, their VDI-based clients are moving at 4PM EST and the Bloomsburg-based clients after midnight tonight.

WTFHosting 05-01-2001, 03:49 PM I would give them a chance. As Mark said, they are in the process of moving all clients, which is bound to have problems. Also, how long have you been a client? Statistically, 93% doesn't mean much if it's over a short period of time. Most uptime guarantees are over a month's time, so once things do smooth out, your uptime percentage will improve, and likely will be closer to their 99.5% guarantee.
TheNode 05-01-2001, 03:52 PM So it's been a while.
Phoenix 05-01-2001, 05:06 PM I have disagree with WTF on the uptime issue. We recently rolled out our new SLA (and made our live uptime stats public) and we did a lot of haggling over minutes, hours and percentage points before deciding on where to draw the line in the sand. There was never any question of how to calculate uptime.
Uptime isn't a statistical percentage based on averages, but a cumulative amount for a set period (usually calculated monthly, quarterly or annually).
99% uptime means no more than 7 hours, 26 minutes of downtime/month
99.9% uptime means no more than 45 minutes of downtime/month
99.99% uptime means no more than 4 minutes 30 seconds of downtime/month
99.999% uptime means no more than 27 seconds of downtime/month
If the company in question tries to massage the data to make it look as if they met their 99.5% Service Level, you might want to share the above information with them, as they are trying to rip you off.
Deb Suran 05-01-2001, 05:47 PM There is no excuse for not responding to support requests for 48 hours. None. There *are* such things as prerecorded phone messages and e-mail autoresponders to inform customers about an upgrade-in-progress, if that is in fact what's going on. 48 hours down-time with no response from support would be enough cause for me to find a new host.
TheNode 05-01-2001, 05:48 PM It either rings and rings, or goes to some guy who doesn't help much.
Of course, with this situation, I havn't even gotten to the guy that doesn't help much.
BurstNET 05-01-2001, 05:58 PM Domain Name: GRENADEBROTHAS.COM

You are using UltraSpeed DNS...which is not under our control.
You were sent instructions to transfer such some time ago....
We cannot control their DNS servers...
The server you are on, Kremlin, has not been down in some time...
It IS down now, due to our NOC move...and should be back up in 2-3 hours.
The reason the phones are not being answered, is because there is an individual currently
spammin our phone system...ie using multiple phones calling every minute.
We are working with AT&T and Verizon to find this moron and block his numbers.
This is on top of us being short staff due to the NOC move.
Regardless, we are here, and everything is under control and running smoothly.

TheNode 05-01-2001, 06:02 PM But obviously it didn't change because I never get any updates. In other words, I did not recieve any notice of DNS changes.
Where can I go to find the regular DNS server?

Try switching your nameservers to:
DNS.BURST.NET 66.96.193.2
DNS1.BURST.NET 66.96.194.2
