I'm quite confused with my bandwith usage on my ded. server at VO.

My MRTG stats show that my total outgoing traffic this month is about 31 GB, which I feel is rather much, since I only have about 20 very small sites on my server. These are all just simple small personal sites, with only 300 visits each month.

But when I use WHM (5.3.0), and I check the bandwith usage, I can read that the total 'HTTP/POP3/FTP Outgoing Bandwidth Usage' is only 2.4 gigabytes...
According to my friends (their sites are on my server), most of their sites don't use more than 400mb of traffic/mo, at least according to cPanel... So 20 sites x 400mb = 8gigabytes (and that's what I think is the absolute maximum).

I'm confused, very confused to say the least.. Could you please explain to me in detail how all this bandwith monitoring works? I'm lost

I don't know how bandwith monitoring works, but you could contact VO support if you don't get your answers here

Traffic that MRTG shows outgoing is (at least where I'm hookup up) outgoing from the switch, or incoming into your server.

One test to try is to shut down or reboot your server and see where the traffic level is--there may be other servers on your network that are broadcasting a lot of junk. Then, when MRTG shows 2-10k incoming (outgoing) traffic, you know there's a problem, and can scream bloody murder for them padding yoir traffic. ;)
