View Full Version : help me to choose a web hosting
kuntul 11-25-2010, 12:33 PM I currently have a 1and1 business account. I want to move to a different host because their email support is just damn slow and I wanted to have a live chat support if possible. I wanted to have .NET4 and SQL Server installed on it and if possible I want to run PHP too because later on I want to do some PHP. What would be a good solution that you guys can recommend me? I looked at go daddy and the only drawback is that they don't have live support..
HVH-Ernie 11-25-2010, 12:35 PM What kind of a budget do you have?
kuntul 11-25-2010, 12:40 PM I am looking at less than $5 per month
HVH-Ernie 11-25-2010, 12:41 PM Have you looked in to hostdime.com? Their support is 24/7.
kuntul 11-25-2010, 12:49 PM one problem is that they only allow 1 domain for their cheapest rate.. I need like 2-3.
PremiumHost 11-25-2010, 10:24 PM You should worry about host quality instead of live support.
Not many hosts provide live chat support, and prepare to pay premium if you want live chat to resolve technical issues.
Asp.net 4 MSSQL PHP are standard features of windows hosting.
kuntul 11-25-2010, 10:34 PM I don't mind not having live support if the email support responds fast. By fast I mean within 2-3 hours. 1and1 doesn't have PHP in their windows support
There's plenty of hosts out there, I'd suggest either getting a quote by using the "find a host" tool here at WHT:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/web-hosting-providers
Or you can check out the Offers section :)

Good luck!
kpmedia 11-26-2010, 09:37 PM Your budget is just not realistic for quality Windows hosting.
Even 10 years ago, I was paying $10-15 monthly minimum, and prices have fallen a bit in that time.
Not to $5, but still about $100/year, give or take a few bucks.
Better hosts are in the $15 range, like EuroVPS and CoolHandle, for shared budget Windows hosting.
Live support is overrated anyway -- ticket systems are better for everybody.
besthostlead 11-27-2010, 05:52 AM i'll suggest CoolHandle(formerly pronethosting).Though your budget is kinda small.
kpmedia 11-27-2010, 01:46 PM Pronet = CoolHandle = CoolWin. .... Have to love M&A + re-org.
Aaron_CoolWin 11-27-2010, 01:59 PM KP is correct. Pronet+CoolHandle is now CoolWin. << removed >>
Thanks,
Aaron
Jack-PNH 12-01-2010, 03:36 AM KP is correct. Pronet+CoolHandle is now CoolWin. << removed >>
Thanks,
Aaron
This is ABSOLUTELY, 100% NOT TRUE.
We currently refer Windows Hosting customers to Cool Win Hosting, but we are NOT IN ANYWAY in business together.
Cool Handle is ONLY Cool Handle; NOT Cool Win Hosting.
Aaron_CoolWin 12-01-2010, 09:54 AM Sorry I wasn't more clear.
Jack is right, we're not affiliated at all.
Jack-PNH 12-01-2010, 10:41 AM Sorry I wasn't more clear.
Jack is right, we're not affiliated at all.
This is not a clarification issue, but a false statement.
Cool Handle is NOT Cool Win Hosting.
kpmedia 12-01-2010, 01:36 PM I don't like to be accused of making "false statements" -- especially when I was in the process of recommending your company as a good host. Clearly there is some relationship at hand, and I submit this email as proof:
Dear XXXXXXXXXXX,
We would like to thank you for being a valued customer of ours. In an effort to offer you the highest level of service possible, we would like to inform you that you will now receive support from a new group of Windows hosting specialists. The Windows hosting specialists have a tremendous amount of experience in Windows hosting. For any support and billing requests, you will now use a new website. So you've either sold your CoolHandle Windows customers to Coolwin, or you have a relationship, or you're the same company with multiple outward facing brands, or something else that I'd love to hear about.
What's most curious to me is the anger about Pronet / CoolHandle / Coolwin somehow being related.
So.... yeah. :)
Jack-PNH 12-01-2010, 01:38 PM KP, We did not claim that you posted false statements.
kpmedia 12-01-2010, 01:50 PM Let's go through this one more time, then...
Better hosts ... like EuroVPS and CoolHandle, for shared budget Windows hosting.
coolwinhosting.com
i'll suggest CoolHandle(formerly pronethosting).
Pronet = CoolHandle = CoolWin
KP is correct. Pronet+CoolHandle is now CoolWin.
Sorry I wasn't more clear. Jack is right, we're not affiliated at all.
This is not a clarification issue, but a false statement.
In review:
I recommend CoolHandle/Coolwin.
Aaron suggests Coolwin.
besthostlead suggests CoolHandle
I point out that CoolWin = CoolHandle (formerly Pronet) ... based on my info.
Aaron confirms CoolWin = CoolHandle
Jack gets angry.
Aaron recants his statement.
Jack calls it (CoolWin=CoolHandle) a false statement, which reflects on both Aaron and myself.
So ..... now I'm confused.
.... and I"m not even sure if I want to recommend CoolHandle/Coolwin anymore. You've done some damage here today, fellas, and you'd better figure it out if you want my support anymore. I'm not pleased at all.
None of this makes sense now. :(
RFEHosting 12-01-2010, 02:20 PM I would suggest checking the Shared hosting offers section. There are some great ones in there.
Jack-PNH 12-01-2010, 02:26 PM Our Windows hosting division was recently sold to Cool Win Hosting. We do not offer Windows shared and Windows reseller hosting any longer.
The statement made by 'aaron_cwh' regarding that we are one company are false.
At this time, other then recommending them as a Windows hosting provider, we do not have any affiliation with them.
I hope this clears everything up. Any further comments or questions, please feel free to PM me.
Right Hosting 12-08-2010, 10:43 PM .... and I"m not even sure if I want to recommend CoolHandle/Coolwin anymore. You've done some damage here today, fellas, and you'd better figure it out if you want my support anymore. I'm not pleased at all.

I've crossed Coolwin off my short list after reading this thread
kpmedia 12-10-2010, 07:44 PM I've crossed Coolwin off my short list after reading this thread
I think Coolwin was the innocent victim here, a casualty of the conversation, as it was Coolhandle that was making the statements I took issue with. We've since worked out an acceptable and amicable understanding in PM. Both Coolwin (Windows) and Coolhandle (Linux) offer great quality service, and I still recommend both of them for hosting.
Coolwin strikes me as one of the better Windows hosts, and one of the only ones in the USA. Only EuroVPS currently ranks above them on my list, for Windows shared environments.
Coolhandle is yet another good Linux host.
So I'd un-cross it from your list. :agree:
