Hi,
I am a newbie for dedicated servers. After reading many posts in these excelent forums I am still confused.
I have found this offer from RackShack
Celeron 1.3 512MB RAM
60 GB Hard Drive / 7200 RPM
400GB Monthly Transfer
256k OBC - 100MHz FSB
RedHat Linux 7.2 - Ensim
Set Up Fee $39.00
Monthly Fee $99.00
Anyone could suggest other dedicated (and reliabel ) companies?
Rackshack does not offer Firewalls or Backups, How you can manage that ?
Thank you

Kongen,
Thanks for your mial. Do you mean that I have to make backups to another server in a second company ?
On the other hand I would like to know your opinion on RackShack versus Cobalt RQ3 server in cobaltrack.com.
Thank you

The http://www.cobaltrack.com/ seems to charge too much for extra bandwight...
And there site is not good :(
I wont sign-up it a company that has that much newbie site...
The rackshack is a good chose for you...
For a firewall search the rackshack forum and you will find how to install bastille ( linux free ) firewall, and a damme good firewall :)

install a firewall yourself and get a secondary hard drive and backup to that. its cheaper than anything out there.

Thank you all for your replies ;)
I agrre with Cobalt Rack website. Furthermore, presales support is not very good. I thought RACKSHACK was a very good option, but I read some bad opinions about them in this forum and I was affraid.
Abusing of your time, which option would you chose :
Intel Pentium 3 1 Hz
Celeron 1.3 Hz
Both with 512 RAM
Ot it is worh the prize to pay 30 little bit mOre for a Pentium iV 2 HZ
Good forums!!
Thank you

p3 1ghz and celeron 1.3 should be about the same depending on the cache of both cpus. P4 upgrade wouldn't hurt. I have 5 rackshack servers and would recommend them.

Thank you again :)
We are a small group of people involved in research and we want to use this server as a tool for protocols, e-mail and so. We are not techis and all of us have been working in Windows 2000. Basic knowledge on servers and nothing about mySQL, PHP or scripting
Do you think it is a too difficult venture?
Could you please recommend us a good forum like this to start to learn some basic thinks on how to manage your server and survive?
Thank you :cartman:
